Discord’s new (now temporarily halted) policies are dangerous to so, so many users and creators, queer and many others.
Discord keeps feeling more like a platform than a chat app.
Well aside from this: you should never have relied on Discord.
They made IRC a centralized and proprietary trap. When, not if, they decide you’ve done something wrong, what you can do about it is go fuck yourself. The content is gone, the community is gone, there is no second vendor.
There are still eris IRC servers.
It’s just your generation never solved decentralized spam. So you convenienced yourself to hierarchical moderation.
As greeks idiomatically say: How you sleep, thus’ll wake.Does IRC have ventrillo-style voice channels and screen sharing? Because that is what drove many many people to discord.
Part of the v3 plan is to do just that.
Mumble was designed for the these exact features in mind.

I have looked into those and Mumble is pure voice and no video or screen sharing and specifically doesn’t want to do this for the past 5 years
Jitsi meet does not have drop-in, dropout ventrillo style channels and has Skype style calls (my info could be out of date).
IRC having those features isn’t available yet and who knows when it will happen.
So it seems to me that there was still no alternative when most people on discord were looking for a group chat/voice/video app.
Don’t get me wrong, I used vent, Mumble, xfire, etc… Back in the day. But it is disingenuous from the original commenter to say that people just traded the same features for a closed system. Fuck discord though.

I never said “should not use yt (in some part of it).” I said WonderAuria contradicts her own trust, and more in her video, and I couldn’t bear it. Then I question her ethics if she works for Google. I just have issue with the contradictions.
I could mirror the Extremely Goofy scene on a peertube instance, heck I can upload it here on ani.social. Noja explained why they don’t use peertube, which are valid points. But I wanted Noja to see that is up to us to bring the changes we want to see.
