Hello. I’m pretty new to keeping plecos and this lil guys in our big community tank. I’m unsure if he’s getting enough food. I’ve read the descriptions on how to tell and it seems to boil down ‘is it skinny’. Sold to me as a Super Red Bristlenose Pleco from an individual.

Does my pleco look skinny/under fed? What’s your favorite food for you pleco?

He looks decent to me, as long as you have some driftwood (which I see you do) for him to chew on, plus some algae wafer, he should be just fine! Do you see him going after the wafers when you add them? Thats the usual pleco food I use, he will also hoover up the normal fish pellets

I’ve had a ton of these over the years, and I did have one that died of a wasting disease. It looked VERY thin, your looks like a gym bro by comparison.

They can also get fat! This one is not fat, I think it’s good.

You’ll eventually get a feel for how long it takes them to get through a pellet/wafer and as long as you have that drift wood and they’re eating, they’re fine.

Dynamics change if you have a mixed gender population of them. They can bully each other to sickness
