Like Mac or Harmony where they aren’t just an OS; they’re the hardware also.
Remember when we might buy a new video card every 6 months because prices and performance were drastically changing fast? -It’s not happening anymore. Even over-clocking seems a waste of time now. -Those were the golden days of building your own computer or holding out for better component prices before upgrading.
This future would probably be a BSD based solution (like consoles/ Mac) rather than Linux due to copy-left licensing. (The future of desktop is far more likely BSD than Linux and for more reasons like more stable ABI)
-And that’s if a fresh OS (like Harmony) doesn’t show up and dominate.
A full-stack solution can have more efficient cooling and still be repairable and somewhat upgradeable. Microsoft may even introduce such a product with a refresh of the OS.
