Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that European countries realize that refusing cooperation with Russia has become political suicide for their countries.

The Russian news agency Sputnik quoted Zakharova as saying on the sidelines of the “St. Petersburg International Economic Forum”: “The populations of Western European countries realize where their systems have led them, and they are demanding decisive action to overcome the crisis.”

Zakharova added: “They realize that refusing to deal with Russia, use its resources, and live in normal coexistence based on mutual respect within a unified European space has become political suicide for them. Therefore, they are receiving a response from their systems indicating that they intend to follow a completely different path.”

This year’s “St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2026” is held under the slogan “Pragmatic Dialogue… The Path to a Stable Future,” at a time when the global economy is witnessing rapid transformations and increasing challenges related to growth, development, technology, and the reshaping of economic power centers on the international stage.
