Prime Minister Mark Carney says the federal government is entering into contract negotiations with Saab to buy a fleet of surveillance aircraft for the Royal Canadian Air Force.
The federal government has previously said it’s in the market for six radar aircraft to help protect Canada against threats.
Saab produces the planes in a joint partnership with bombardier, based off of the Global 6500 business jet.

Maybe they should throw in some Gripens with the order.
Could be a testing the waters situation. Still got my fingers crossed that we might get some though.
I just hope this isn’t a “see! we can buy from other countries too! (and then buy all of the F35s as initially planned)” kind of thing.
nobody should be buying the Fail35, it’s as much of a disaster as the country it comes from.
Ya, using this as an excuse would be terrible.
We are stuck with 16 F35’s plus parts & servicing at least. Since i don’t think the CUSMA deal is long for this world, it’s going to be Gripens for the rest of our requirement i’m pretty sure.
hopefully, but we all know trump will go (metaphorically) nukular if we go with Gripen. They already tried planting the seeds of “but there’s no way it could interoperate with modern planes as part of NORAD and NATO!” which, of course they can. and “you could never possibly afford to have more than 1 type of plane! that’s just crazy talk!” which is nonsense, except for the insane requirements for care and feeding of the F35s taking an oversized proportion of available resources…
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Carney has v0become the slipperiest bastard to hold the office of PM since Mulroney. I don’t trust a wors that comes out of his mouth, only his actions.
I like the big ears they put on this surveillance plane. It’ll be able to hear the bad guys coming
Still 20% of components sourced from the US, but better than buying a full American plane.
