Iran has urged the international community not to draw hasty conclusions about a possible revision of its nuclear doctrine following the change in the country’s top leadership. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi explained that the position of the new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, on the religious edict prohibiting nuclear weapons remains unknown, although Tehran continues to insist on its right to develop peaceful nuclear energy. The diplomat called for waiting for an official statement of the strategy from the new leader, noting that it is unlikely to differ significantly from the previous course. At the same time, the Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a sharp condemnation of Washington’s information campaign. The ministry’s official spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, called White House statements claiming that Iran is seeking to build a nuclear bomb a “big lie.” In his view, these unsubstantiated accusations are being used by the United States to justify unprovoked aggression against the Islamic Republic. Baghaei emphasized that such actions lack moral and legal grounds and destabilize the situation, undermining international arms control efforts, including the New START Treaty.
