Three cargo ships were struck by suspected projectiles off the coast of Iran on Wednesday morning, according to the UKMTO.

The incidents mark the latest in a string of reported attacks in or near to the Strait of Hormuz since the U.S. and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran on Feb. 28.

Iran has retaliated by targeting ships trying to pass through the strategically vital waterway.

Soooo like the primary role of a Navy is policing waters. The fact that the US said nah we wont escort ships its too dangerous us a HUGE signal that we’ve given up serious global hard power.

Looking at Ukraine/Russia and now this, it feels like drone warfare has largely made military ships sitting ducks.

Maybe only temporarily. A zodiac with a bunch of explosives and remote control can be defeated by a rocket. Once ships are equipped with anti-sea drone measures, it’ll be back to an even playing field.

So the cheap remote drone you mention is just as cheap as the current shahed. Drone swarm and attrition is what what is overwhelming the iron dome and other systems. Ukraine has made sophisticated sea drones for $200k capable of taking out Russian warships.

The US Navy ships currently have the most advanced anti-drone systems and is too afraid to step into the straight.
