Mine would be Hebron in Palestine back in 2019. I was in Israel and it was already incredibly cool to see all the places I heard about as a child in church every Sunday. But then I was remembering this one city which was a lot in news when I was a teenager, and that was like twenty years later and I haven’t heard the name in news for a long time, so I dared to visit it.
If you’re interested I recorded a podcast episode there: https://jeena.net/pods/21 and I also recorded me walking through Hebron for half an hour: https://tube.jeena.net/w/3FhHLhdfxHpEJGdGPTA3uA
But I’m interested in the unique and unusual places you guys traveled to.
2012: Calabar, Nigeria. Gorgeous scenery and nice people.
And a couple of years ago I spent days just loafing around in Victoria, Labuan (Malaysia). It was during Ramadan, and everything was decorated with lights for when families came out after dark to eat together. Beautiful sight.
Oh, and one day we got back to the hotel, and there was a red carpet. Turned out the sultan of Malaysia was visiting the island at the same time we were, and he was staying at the same hotel. There was a myriad of journalists there to take pictures, and at least one of the pictures, which may or may not have gotten into the newspaper, you can see a scruffy looking sun burnt IT dude in the background.
And I was in Bahrain last year, come to think of it.
