Official title is Mass Effect: Andromeda, but yes, there’s a fourth Mass Effect… and it’s awesome. I think a lot of people who forgot about the ending of 3 are mad Shepherd isn’t in it (I mean… 4 isn’t a prequel). It actually sets aside the whole Shepherd mythology by jumping 600+ years into the future, as an ark of humans wake up in the Andromeda galaxy. And there are no mass relays because every ship has a mass effect field generator now… I guess.
My take on ME4 is, they took the planetary (Mako tank) concept of 1, and expanded it. So it’s back to Citadel (now called something else) and planets, and each planet has this huge explorable zone, but now you’re building bases so humanity can gain a foothold in the new galaxy. Only not every race came. The quarians and geth stayed behind (I guess because either/both can be destroyed in ME3) but you still have humans, turians, asari, and krogans. And a new race native to the new galaxy can join your ship, and another couple new races as antagonists. Also, everyone’s favourite part of ME2 (planet scanning and probing) is now done planet side, you can fire the probes from your tank. It’s still dumb. The economy (including the crafting economy) is still the worst part of Mass Effect, but the story/writing and characters are still top notch. That has been true across all four.
They’re actually working on a fifth one.
