Tesla filed a criminal complaint and called police to its Gigafactory Berlin after accusing an IG Metall union representative of secretly recording a closed works council meeting on Tuesday. Police seized the representative’s laptop. The incident comes just three weeks before roughly 11,000 employees vote in a works council election that could reshape the future of the plant.
Did they even present any proof that she was recording? To me it sounds like they just made up some bullshit and for some reason the cops just decided to believe it.
I hope the union rep properly encrypted their laptop to prevent them from searching it, but i doubt they are that well prepared.
Any laptop being used for business should have at minimum bitlocker enabled, if not a different encryption system entirely that isn’t open to Microsoft.
It’s also Germany, not the US. US companies just giving other country’s police what they want without things like warrants isn’t as prevalent as it is within the US.
