Last year, people in the U.S. made an estimated $4.7 billion selling their plasma. Donation centers are popping up in middle-class neighborhoods, including suburban strip malls and college towns.

This is hopelessly depressing.
In conjunction with the “The U.S is shipping $6,200,000,000 (6.2 billion) worth of plasma overseas” and the “individual was paid $62 on a pre-paid debit card” you can see they’ve turned desperation into yet another profit source.
If you’re selling plasma to make ends meet you aren’t middle class, you’re poor skilled labor
You’re working class, because the middle class is a fiction.
I think I read that donating your plasma was a good way to eliminate microplastics from your system. So while that doesn’t improve the overall dystopian-ism of this, it’s a bit of a silver lining? I guess?
“First world country”
Well, yeah. Textbooks and weed ain’t free. Plus they give you some food afterwards to get past the crash. All you have to do is let a machine extract some of your essence to be used for medical testing. You’ll barely miss it.
And be stabbed by the worst phlebotomist ever. I’m still scarred from selling plasma shortly after college. Still glad I did, but it has made my non dominant elbow non viable for blood draws and ivs
Let them suffer. They voted for Trump. This is what they get and the only way they might learn. My bet is they’ll blame “immigrants” and vote for republicans again during whichever election comes next.
Just World Fallacy strikes again
