Hi everyone,
Updates:
Added proper categorization to the website. Now the categories are:
Actions of ICE Agents:
Abduction, Pepper Spray/Gas/Grenades, Threatening, Use of excessive force, Assault, Murder
Actions of citizens:
Reaction of Public to ICE, Protests, Citizens Defending Themselves
Coming very soon:
Instead of just a “Description” field, which is currently mostly used to specify the source, there will be more detailed fields, most probably such as:
Attacker(s):
Victim(s):
Date and Time of the incident:
Place of the incident:
Source(s):
Additional notes:
Decentralization:
After those are added, the current archive will be copied, compressed, and shared via torrent.
The stand-alone folder will consist of videos and a database, with the name of the videos and information about each video, such as specified above.
This will allow us to “immortalize” the documented material. That way, even if something happens to the project, or to the people running it, the archive will still be publicly available.
Suggestions:
Currently thinking about two main issues:
1 - How to ensure the integrity of the torrent archives?
Since one of the major goals is also to collect evidence for possible future prosecutions of individual agents who committed the crimes, it is important to have a way to prove that the data was not tampered with. My current solution is to create sha512 hashes of each archive that will be shared, and feature it both on the website and in the future torrents.
So, the hash of the first torrent will be in the second torrent, the hash of the second torrent will be in the third, etc. Also again, the hashes will be published on the website. If there is a better way, please let me know :)
2 - What are the different ways of proving that a file was created at a specific time?
Again, this is to ensure that the archived videos can be potentially used as evidence to prosecute agents who committed crimes. From what I found, there are platforms such as DigiCert, which are a trusted authority, and they can accept a document and then create a certificate proving that it was created at a specific date. However, registration requires personal information, and yearly cost of just having a certificate is around $750, both of which isn’t ideal. That is why I wanted to ask if there is another way to prove that the archive was created at a specific date.
Thanks :)
