Southern Chronicles (2024), a Lithuanian black comedy set in the early 1990s, during the country’s post-Soviet period of austerity. A working-class teenager who cares only about hustling and rugby becomes infatuated with an upper-middle-class girl and starts reading poetry to woo her. Hilarity ensues as he gets up to all sorts of mischief in the bleak economic landscape of the era. This is the only notable work to date of director Ignas Miskinis. Currently the top-rated Lithuanian film on Letterboxd.
