I departed from my west coast small Canadian beach town, outside of Vancouver, BC, in 2017 and returned in the mid 2020s to discover something shocking! Where is my home?

Tearing all the mature trees down on the mainstrip was the biggest change I saw, it totally changed the small town feel, and “paved” the way for developers to build towers past the city height bylaws and just say whoopsie.
Now its just like any urban city.
Up till -2017 you would be greeting strangers like a village. On w with the massive density and focus on a modern city, you get the aloof Vancouver vibe from those you say hello to
Wow, that makes me depressed. My town was like that as well.
