Future releases don’t make the current one last longer though.
Do you mean “Wagen des Volkes” == WV or “Vault of the Wizard” == VW`?
I think there is a rather wide consensus that this indicates the date of the first major update in the game’s new Expansion Cycle, though we can’t be sure of course.

They aren’t doing Living World any more though, are they? I thought the plan was one smaller expansion a year, then quarterly updates?
They name major game updates different now and changed their size. A mini-expansion like SotO is in fact about the size of 2 Living World episodes. I assume that SotO’s (quarterly) major updates will roughly have the size of a 1 Living World episode, but who knows …
Their “mini expansions” are just repackaged Living World at basically full box price while keeping the cash shop. Like, literally.
