So the status coup guy was talking while he was moving around about something he has to protect his head that he can then put a baseball cap over. He feels that with actual helmets ice is more likely to target shooting the person in the head. So im looking for advice along these lines on a few different basises.

  • one is common things for someone who wants some protection when they go out and can’t buy specific things

  • two is suggestions for stealth armor like the status coup guy was sorta talking about. Being protected without it being obvious and possibly be made a target.

  • finally just any advice around protection while being out that people can think of but I am only interested in defensive purposes so please for this thread limit it to protection although redirection is fine and appropriate.

These don’t have to be taken together. free found or stealth that might cost, etc.

Those plastic visors people used during covid might help against OC spray, otherwise any type of goggles.

If you’re worried about getting shot, avoid fabrics like polyester cause the heat from a bullet can actually melt it to your skin making the injury worse. Stick to sturdy, natural fibers or anything that doesn’t melt.

Footwear is important. Something closed-toed and sturdy that fits well and is comfortable and won’t hamper your ability to move. Laces tied tight and tucked out of the way.

If you’re getting batoned, it might be nice to have something on your forearms to block with. Something hard and padded underneath, preferably, but a vambrace would be better than nothing

I used to have neoprene shin gaurds with a thick rubber piece on the front back in my bmx days. They could be easily worn underneath regular pants.

oh yeah biking, skating type of protection. I sorta feel stupid for not thinking of this but there is a lot of potential there and for us frugal folks could still use it if we ever have a better future for biking.

I’ve also built “riot shields” out of big trash cans. But that requires a sawsall and some hardware for handles. Easy to make, but still gonna run you maybe 30-50 bucks for two not including the sawsall.

so do you just kinda cut off the bottom and then slice in two and then add handles to the inside face?

That’s pretty much it. I cut a belt to use as a forearm strap as well; because they become unwieldy.

yeah im thinking the bottom as round shield to and using the really strong solid type velcro may make it easy to make and repair. Maybe be able to reassemble it somwhat so its just this thing sitting there but you can grab the shields when needed. I really like your idea and thanks.

Just use a fluted steel buckler, they’re not that expensive and the metal is thicker and has a better contour. Probably fits in a backpack

Maybe a stainless steal clipboard could be wrapped in some type of tape to make it seem less substantial? It could be possible to modify the clip into a handle for use as a shield.
