I wanted to see how Venezuelans were talking about the attack today, so I looked for news from Venezuela. I found a site called telesurenglish.net and it loaded fine at first.

But when I clicked on a link ( https://www.telesurenglish.net/us-military-intervention-in-venezuela/ ), the page gave me a “413 Payload Too Large” error – something I’ve never seen before.

To test it, I opened the same link while using a VPN, and it loaded without any problem. When I turned the VPN off, the error came back.

Can anyone else confirm whether the site only works when you’re connected through a VPN?

Edit: it does work on my cellphone provider, no VPN required. So It appear that my provider is adding stuff to my requests sent to the server? I’m not competent to figure out what tough.

I opened the page with my VPN active and inactive. Works both ways for me.

It may be your provider that’s the issue.

Edit … it also could be your browser. I used two different ones.

Thank you, Changed browser from firefox to chrome, same issue, however my cellphone provider works just fine. I’m probably being too suspicious.

I use 7 different browsers so I can usually get one of them to work – or hide me better – depending on what I’m researching. ;)

Videotron’s DNS service is complete and utter ass, set your DNS to CIRA CanadianShield.

FWIW, I disabled Wi-Fi on my Hélix router and fronted it with a nice ASUS router, this lets me set the DNS for my entire home network to CIRA.

I can open both, though your second link leads to a 404, I had to open it via the Telesur homepage.

The page is reachable for me in a Javascriptless desktop browser window and does not throw the error you described, so it’s probably a broken script or embed. Or at least I hope it’s just broken and not malicious.

(What’s additionally weird is that 413 is an error you would normally see when uploading a file too large for the server . . .)
