The king [Conrad III of Germany] besieged the city of the duke Welf of Bavaria, which was called Weinsberg, and accepted its surrender, having granted with royal magnanimity permission to the wives and other women found there that they might take with them whatever they could carry on their shoulders. Taking thought both for their loyalty for their husbands and the safety of the others, they disregarded their household goods and came down carrying the men on their shoulders. When Duke Friedrich said that such things should not happen, the king, showing favour to the women’s cunning, said that it would not be fitting to change his royal word.

i liked this enough to wojak-ify it haha

Oh, shizzle my wizzle! The middle figure (i.e. Conrad III) has been appearing in memes for years, right? Can’t believe I shared the artwork and didn’t notice, oof.
So wait, you converted the side figures to line art, is that it…?
I doubt he was the direct inspiration for the blonde chad wojak, but he sure as shit looks similar in this painting!
Yup traced, colored, and added wojak faces with GIMP. also flipped the image to make the dialogue go left to right
Duke Friedrich: nooooo your majesty you can’t let them get away with this!
King Conrad III: lmao i aint even mad. well-played, gals
I would have loved it if he’d chuckled, sighed, and let them make a 2nd trip, rescuing whatever beloved items of theirs that probably weren’t going to be of much use to the conquering side, anyway.
I guess when a movie version is produced, we can make that slight tweak.

“eh fuck it we’ll make new ones”

ps: It’s from Assassin’s Creed II
Kids could probably ride the backs of the men.
