I’m often forced to listen to all sorts of “trance” techno (hippie friends). The only trance it induces in me is that of boredom.
But this would fit nicely into their sets while much more interesting and enjoyable.
BTW does the helicoptery synth sound that goes on throughout the track have a name? It’s so typical for this genre.
For quality trance, try Hallucinogen: e.g. ‘Twisted’ and ‘The Lone Deranger’. Perhaps also compilations ‘Technobotanic Tryptamines’ or ‘Kiss The Future: Procyon’, but these are pretty traditional.
As for the synth, idk if there’s particular terminology — I think it’s just arpeggios.
Thanks. Every genre has good stuff.
Problem is when people are more fixated on the genre than on quality: it needs to have 4 on the floor, with those prolonged breaks, at the end of each you can shout when the bassdrum kicks in again, maybe believing that this is “trance”. And female vocals reciting buzzwords like Light, Love, Universe, Consciousness, You Are Free, yadda yadda in a sensual voice… 🤮
Yeah, thankfully I don’t keep trash like that. =)
On the house side, you might dig:
-
Powder’s ‘New Tribe’ with the video
-
Medicine’s ‘I’m Sick’
-
Wamdue Project’s ‘King Of My Castle’ (original 1997 version)
-
Jaydee’s ‘Plastic Dreams’
-
Oyasumi’s ‘Overfiend’ for great nonstandard techno
-
maybe Satoshi Tomiie’s ‘Global Underground: Nubreed 006’: CD1, CD2
You could also try ABSL / Size Pier’s ‘Chaines Et Denuement EP’ and Florian Meindl’s ‘Nights I Don’t Sleep’ for the atmosphere — I’ve got some more if you happen to like these.
Thanks. I have earmarked these now.
