Earlier this month we reported that apparel maker Hero Within was dropping their Star Trek license after focusing on Trek-themed jackets and more for most of the last decade. Now art print maker Retrospect Studios is following suit, also citing the increased licensing fees that have been imposed after the Skydance takeover of Paramount. However, some other makers of Star Trek products are letting fans know they are sticking with the franchise into 2026.
Retrospect says goodbye
Retrospect Studios is home to the work of artist Kavita Maharaj, who has been painting for three decades and more recently made a name for herself with portraits of Star Trek characters. Working with acrylic paint on canvass, Maharaj began with her “Spock Painting Series” in 2018, with prints of her paintings officially licensed by Paramount and sold throughout the world.
