Hi all

I have an electric kettle I use to boil water often. I bought is because it is stainless steel, except for the indicator to see the water level. Of course this plastic part is now leaking…

Does anyone have an idea how to fix it? My idea would be to fill it with silicone, but not sure if that is safe for use with foods

I would recommend motor silicone, since it’s often rated for 300 C. The surface being sealed should be scratched or sanded for better adhesion. After it has fully cured (several days), one should probably do about ten “test boils” to flush out anything that might seep into water.

i would probably replace. the fix will probably annoyingly fail. with a simpler kettle without an internal level, i suggest measuring the water you put in, so you waste neither water nor energy.

shrug. homemade seal vs boiling water cycles. maybe you will get lucky.

Share some pics and make/model for more accurate advice. Off the top of my head, with no professional in knowledge, I think silicon would be fine.
