There seems to be a new 1W module in the pipeline. The model is RAK13302. I saw some Coming Soon listings on their store web site and then I found this PR for support in Meshtastic.

Great, they made a crocodile, all mouth, no ears…

Every bozo is gonna think they need this thing in their pocket, we’ll have more congestion than ever.

It’s not gatekeeping. I’m not saying only I should have it. I’m saying that radio is a two way street. It doesn’t help to have more power and be louder, blast your signal further, if you can’t hear anyone’s response to you.

It’s a common problem in ham radio. People buying 600, 800, 1000 or 1500w amps, and plugging them into their low hanging, compromised antenna.

Sure, you’re getting heard 7000 miles away, but can you hear them back?

Instead, get a better antenna, get it up high, something with some gain like a yagi is even better because gain works in both directions. Your signal will be stronger, (the mouth) AND you’ll hear better (the ears). Add an amp to that if you need a little boost, but don’t run it unless you have to.

Literally the one of the most important rules, from the FCC, is to use the minimum required power to get the job done.

I’m sure there are legitimate use cases for 1w Lora radios, absolutely there are. And people can do what they want. But I’m calling it now, this is gonna make more problems than it solves, simply because a lot of people who get into Lora have yet to learn how RF actually works 🤷‍♂️
