Any way to confirm or debunk this news? [October 17th: AWS fires 40% of its DevOps workers (to replace with AI)]

It appears this has been circulating as clickbait since at least July of 2025. (They actually used that old “what happens next will shock you” chestnut…)

I couldn’t find any reliable sources confirming it, and people purporting to be employees say it’s false.

Thank you. Can you share the link where they say that?

        This comment from not-lemmy:

I work at AWS corporate, this is BS. There’s a LOT wrong with Amazon as a whole, but I’m tracking to NO org within the company that has had deep cuts solely due to AI.

And the top comment from the hackernews post you shared:

I’m an AWS engineer and I haven’t seen any evidence of engineering layoffs within AWS since early this year. As others have suggested we generally don’t have ”DevOps Workers” either. There’s definitely a push for AI tools, but there’s no indication that it was related to any off this from what I’ve seen.

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What’s the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.
