I’ve been getting up around 05:00 on release day each week so I can watch the episode before leaving for work, and then I normally watch it again with my wife in the evening. Well apparently she is really getting into the show, because she asked me to wake her up at that time as well so she could watch it earlier! 😂 It’s been fun having another Trek show we both enjoy.

I thought we got another solid episode. I’m glad to see they aren’t pushing the romances every single episode. I’m not against having them, (although I still haven’t warmed up to Spock/La’an yet) but I think they sometimes focus too much on that at the expense of the rest of the story.

Scotty was good in this one! He is definitely becoming one of a few scene stealers that they have in this show, and although he overlaps with Pelia a bit, he seems to fit in well. Speaking of Pelia, I think it’s hilarious that she still has a Atari 2600 around. Space Invaders!

It felt like they were going to remake The Doomsday Machine early on, but I’m glad they decided to do something different. It would have been interesting to know what happened to the crew of the ship that caused them to get to that point, but it might be one of those situations that the ideas we come up with are better than what they could have fit in.

It’s nice to see Kirk getting his sea legs as a captain, and seeing Spock supporting him and helping build his confidence was fun as well. Even though they use him for comic relief a lot, Ethan does very well when they give him this kind of material. It was a fun preview of what we could get if the Year One show ever became a reality.
