What’s the definition of insanity? Seriously, just give Quebec their team. They’ve suffered long enough.

I think what is called for here is a reference to Swamp Castle. Listen, lad. I built this kingdom up from nothing. When I started here, all there was was swamp. Other kings said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show 'em. It sank into the swamp. So, I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So, I built a third one. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp, but the fourth one… stayed up! And that’s what you’re gonna get, lad: the strongest castle in these islands. When it comes to hockey, Atlanta is Swamp Castle.

At least last time the Thrashers became the Jets. Maybe this time the new Atlanta team will become the Nordiques again or an Atlantic Canada team.

Atlantic Canada and the Maritimes refer to the same thing right? I’m not from there so I get the terms confused, but I hope to see a Nova Scotia/New Brunswick/ P.E.I. team eventually.

Maritimes is New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and PEI. Atlantic brings in Newfoundland and Labrador.

It’s kind of the same thing as the Prairies for Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta vs the West which adds BC.

Surely it would be better to put teams in more passionate hockey areas? Seattle made sense but Atlanta really seems like football country. Quebec, Hamilton or the Maritimes seem better and more interesting to me, especially Quebec or the Maritimes. I’m sure I read a study about how Canada could support far more teams despite their smaller population due to the higher proportion of hockey fans.

Moving the NHLs most forgettable team (Coyotes) to Regina would make more sense than another attempt to make hockey relevant in Georgia.

Bad take. Atlanta was saddled with ownership that wouldn’t have succeeded anywhere.

Or it’s just not as big of a hockey market as many other cities. I completely understand why Bettman is against additional Canadian teams (even if I disagree with him) but is Atlanta really the best we can do?

I’d personally love to see Houston get a team, but I think the League would put a team in Honolulu before they get to Houston.

I’m not sure Houston would be much better than Atlanta. I live in Austin, and when I ask people if they watch the Dallas Stars, they ask if I mean the Dallas Cowboys. When I explain that the Stars are a hockey team, they look at me puzzled for a second and say, “Dallas has a hockey team?” What’s worse is when I explain that we have a hockey team (albeit a minor league team), they are just as shocked.
