What I mean by that is, what is the one CD in your collection that is out of character compared to the rest of your albums. For me, it’s this Miami bass compilation from the late 80s called The Miami Bass Express. I saw it at the thrift store for $2 and decided to give it a go. Definitely not something I would normally listen to, but it’s kinda fun to put on once in a while.

Dude, that’s a great fucking CD!

I never had the disc, but one of my friends did, and copied off a tape for me.

Miami bass is the tits! Most of the time, it’s a car system only kind of thing, but most of the genre is great in a club or at a party too

If you ever want to go looking, try and find “the bass that ate miami”. It’s the quintessential miami bass mix. The title track in particular is probably the perfect example of the style.

A lot of that stuff is out of print, and it’s hard to find ripped copies. So, if you even remotely have an interest in music preservation, rip that sucker and share it via your preferred p2p software.

My outlier is a kids bop CD. I have no clue where I have it stored right now, but my nephew gave it to me when he was five or six, ages ago (he’s creeping on 30 now) because he knew I like music. I have a couple of fire resistant storage boxes that I keep that kind of sentimental stuff in, and I’m not sire which one it’s in. But I rarely actually listen to it.

Over my headphones it definitely bumps. I’m heading to a big record store near me today that has a ton of CDs and vinyl so I will definitely try to find more Miami bass. I ripped it to my media NAS and will put it up when I get set up on a p2p client!
