In the market for a new phone and I want to try out GrapheneOS. I know I need a Pixel phone (rather ironic i need to get a google device to degoogle), but I already made the mistake of buying a carrier locked pixel previously. If I do buy a phone third party (through google or some other place) and then install GOS on it, would I be able to transfer my services over to the new phone running GOS? Would there be any issues with my carrier?
As long as you buy an unlocked phone (such as directly from Google) your carrier is just your service provider.
So for third party phones, all I have to do is bring them the new phone and they’ll activate it?
As long as it is unlocked and it supports the network bands, yes. gsmarena.com is a great resource. Look up the phone and look under the network section to see which specific bands the phone supports. Then look up the bands used by your provider (I don’t have a specific website for this) and compare.
Yes. Never buy the phone from your carrier; always buy an unlocked device online and transfer the SIM card over. You don’t even need to tell them that you bought a new phone. 90% of the time it just works (10% of the time you’ll need to get a newer SIM to be able to connect to more frequencies if yours is too old. But even then you’ll still be able to use your phone).
