Well you can’t be “new” if you’re upgrading.
403 is not a “Linux thing”, it just means the server is not accepting your request for a number of reasons. Try again for the next few days. Come back if it still doesn’t work.
Can you update it through the Software app?
That’s what I tried first but it downloads the update and then the Download button just returns.
Now having this issue pop up:
