How do people on Lemmy live like this? Hexbear posts would rotate every 4 to 8is hours, it feels like.
I use the Jerboa app. There’s an option there for sorting by Active (among other options). By default I sort by New, which considers posts with new comments.
Not sure about the browser version of lemmygrad, as I don’t use that often. I think at least the Sort by New option exists there as well.
The server side of Lemmy is where the sort comes from. Hexbear operates on a fork of the Lemmy code, and in that fork they changed the decay time of posts to make them drop off the front page faster. I forget how long exactly the default is. I wish there was just a variable you could set as the operator for the time-based decay, or some way to easily create and supply your own feed algorithms as the operator without having to maintain a whole fork of the system. That is one thing I do like about Bluesky, which is it lets you build your own feed algorithms.
It must make the bad joke and drama spam less insistent when viewed from the instance itself. How advanced!
