I like how your pronouns are “equipped”. Got you a pocket full of pronouns. DOn’t you drop them, or nobody will be allowed to talk about you!

Yeah I’ve been avoiding it since The Change became apparent, but I feel like posting screenshots kind of keeps it alive. Like people think they’re got one over on the bigot billionaire

I cannot recommend the fan fiction book Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality by Eliezer Yudkoesky highly enough. If you’re looking for a HP fix but struggle with ‘death of the author’ issues. There’s even a free audiobook podcast!

MoR was the most excruciatingly self-congratulatory thing I have ever had the misfortune to read. I understand that some people like it, and more power to them, I guess, but I found it to be painfully bad.

I overall enjoyed reading it but you’re absolutely correct that it was very self-indulgent and smug for waaaaay too much of it.

I can recommend Dimension 20’s Misfits and Magic (season 2 just got announced yesterday!) as a much better critique that still brings the joy that people felt with the source material to the table. The cast all says fuck terfs too!

            • I love the people that are involved with Dimension 20, but I haven’t really been able to get into any AP shows in a while. I think I’m just busier than I used to be. I listened to most of Fantasy High S1 and enjoyed a lot of it, but just couldn’t really get into the rest of it. I like seeing clips of the different seasons, I’d love it if they could release some kind of edited or abridged version of each of the seasons or something.

The best thing would be that she doesn’t get any money. The second best is that her money depends on being trans-friendly.

She’s screaming all the way to the bank, knowing that not particularly based people who consider themselves LGBT allies have been lulled into helping to fund her anti-trans crusade.

Diversity of problematic characters: Nonbinary person with they/them pronouns likes “the feminine penis” and “the masculine vulva” way too much.

If terf queen’s home is a “mouldy shack” then my house must be a cardboard box by the river (not even a van).

Slightly off topic, I coined a new term Potterlike which describes a game that features enough wizarding school hallmarks, including character and plot expies from Harry Potter to adequately scratch those itches without supporting a neonazi billionaire that is in turn supporting a hate-driven purge movement.

I have recently been playing Spells & Secrets a German potterlike rogue-lite that has good play, if daft localization. There are some decent potterlikes out there.

To be fair, I never got Quiddich, other than it’s supposed to be a team sport with magic, and Rowling took the design of a team sport as seriously as she did video games, and the affect games have on house point values (in that they heavily outweigh rewards from good behavior, penalties from bad behavior and bonuses for keeping the end of the world and rise of He Who Shall Not Be Named) reflects how school athletics is overprioritized in IRL academics, often over STEM or basic educafion.

    And Griffindor are the jocks.
