How about we stop treating for-profit tech products like utilities?
While this is cool in some ways, handing your phone over during a law enforcement encounter should be an absolute last resort and avoided at all costs.
You don’t hand it over. You don’t even have to unlock your phone:
From the Apple Support Article on presenting your ID:
How to present your driver’s license or state ID in person
- Hold the top of your iPhone or the display of your Apple Watch near the identity reader. You don’t need to unlock, show, or hand over your device to present your license or ID.
- On the screen of your device, review the information that will be shared.
- To provide your consent:
- On an iPhone using Face ID: Double-click the side button to authenticate.
- On an iPhone using Touch ID: Hold your finger on the Home button to authenticate.
- On an Apple Watch: Double-click the side button. When you successfully present your license or ID, a checkmark and Done appear on your device.
Nice! I hope more states adopt the technology.
I think the issue is Apple guards their wallet so tightly that basically no jurisdiction can get their IDs in it
I’ve had my state ID in Apple Wallet for months. Apple specifically created a program to work with states to make this a reality.
