      Surely it will…

I don’t see the big deal here. Mozilla relies on advertising for its revenue. They’re incorporating a new method which prioritizes user privacy first and foremost, even preventing the advertisers from accessing user information. Isn’t this an improvement for both Mozilla and their users?

The big deal is advertising. Advertising is a corruption of everything it touches. They may as well partner with privacy-protecting deforestation and mining interests.

Indeed. I mean, I’m blocking ads as much the next guy and that’s not going to change in any foreseeable future, but I cannot see how introduction of privacy preserving advertising platform could possibly be seen as anything other than an improvement over the current, completely perverse, situation. It would be better for people who don’t block ads, so if this acquisition would advance uses of privacy-respecting advertising systems and simultaneously get some revenue to Mozilla then this sounds quite like a win-win to me.

I knew that the bloody AirBNB CEO was a bad sign of more to come. Mozilla is dead.

Cool. Today I‘m switching to LibreWolf and finally removing Firefox.

Ah, perfect! I’ve always wanted Mozilla to become an advertising company… said no one, ever.
