A diplomatic source told CNN the Hamas response “contained amendments to the Israeli proposal, including a timeline for a permanent ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.”

A senior US administration official told CNN that “the goalposts are moving,” in Hamas’ response, and the group “is now pressing for even greater specificity than it did before.”

Did they think no questions would be asked or details were needed?

…the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.

Why should that be a problem? Isn’t it a fair request to have the invading army leave their land for the purpose of a cease-fire? Was there an intention to have a ceasefire all the while IDF soldiers point guns at Palestinians?

Feels like they had no actual plan for if the deal was accepted

For formal peace absolutely. For a ceasefire to allow hostages to be released and prisoners returned, a full withdrawal doesn’t make sense.

Why does everyone think Hamas is fucking stupid? Israel violates agreements with Palestine constantly, their increased illegal settlements on Palestinian land is what motovated the current conflict. If Israel and the U.S. are unwilling to provide something as simple as a timeline, I don’t think Hamas is the one negotiating in bad faith.

Sources in Hamas told Haaretz that “The amendments that were submitted are intended to ensure that the withdrawal and cease-fire be established in the first phase, and that Israel will not be able to evade the implementation of all stages of the deal and return to fighting once all the hostages are released.”

How dare they want to ensure a ceasefire actually happens

Their details are another word for demands. They are still demanding a permanent ceasefire at the outset. Biden’s plan called for a negotiated permanent ceasefire in Phase 2. In addition, they want to substitute dead bodies for Phase 1 hostage release.

I’m more interested in the process. Hamas has demanded a permanent ceasefire and withdrawal since the beginning, and it has been rejected every time. Biden’s plan called for a temporary ceasefire leading to a negotiated permanent one. And that would be guaranteed by the US. Bliken has to make lemonade from lemons. Glad it’s him and not me.

Nope, not Jewish or Israeli, don’t really care about it. Just looking at it from their perspective. They’re whooping the shit out of Hamas in a war currently, why would they stop unless they get everything they demand?

I don’t care about Zionism in the slightest. I’m interested in how international states interact with each other.

We all care about innocent people being killed. Israel and Hamas do not. So we need to take our emotions out of the equation and look at this situation from their perspectives. Israel will not stop killing people unless all of their demands are met. Hamas will not get anything they demand because they are currently being obliterated, they have no leverage in these negotiations

There is a war. One side is winning, the other is being decimated. Why would the winning side come to the table and make any concessions?

Take all the emotions out of it. Remove the actors and please answer my question.

There is a genocide, and there are freedom fighters. Tell me, which side is out there killing women and children daily. It’s interesting that I’ve never had to see a child with the top half of his head missing until Israel started bombing tf out of Gaza.

I like how you’re straight up ignoring the terrorist apologist comment you made. And really? Your current question wasn’t even your original standpoint. You just came in here talking shit. So no, I don’t think I give a care enough to answer your sociopathic question. “Take emotions out of it.” Get real.
