Doesn’t work for some flowers though

That’s how I identified my yard bun. Also a cottontail.

It will almost take grass from me. It’ll come up and sniff it but doesn’t trust quite that much. Then inevitably a loud truck comes by and scares it off. One of these days maybe I’ll get to give it pets.

The Seek app by iNaturalist is great. It’s really good at identifying pants and animals and to a lesser degree, fungi. It’s also used for research, so it’s pretty cool. My wife and I always update each other on how many new species we snapped at the end of the day.

I’m using it to identify plants from its leaves. What a handy features but they did scan our photos!

I am totally looking for more privacy oriented options, I am not thrilled about being in the big tech ecosystem

Also iNaturalist. It’s not as automated as Merlin, but I’ve found that you can get help from users there when Merlin doesn’t recognize the bird. iNaturalist is especially good for identifying flora and fauna photos, though.

  • It may be because there are two types of flowers in the photo! The ones with lots of little “trumpets” appear to be lantana. The pink one could be a lot of things, it’s hard for me to tell without seeing the flower and plant more clearly. You can always post to the gardening community for help with plant IDs :)
