What tech if any have you found interesting lately?

What tech concerns if any do you have as of late?

Mine:

  • concerned about the google web DRM. I’ve been digging into android and trying to give stock android a chance again but the DRM stuff makes me want to jump over to iOS for tap to pay + carplay and Graphene/Calyx for my daily internet usage. Android added a builtin ad ID to their phones which makes me pretty uncomfortable.
  • Decentralized Tech, like Radicle, Gitopia, Mango for Git and Ethereum DApps (again). Feels like there is a lot of good that can be done but anything I’d build with ethereum I’d really want to disambiguate from the culture of scam/scam coins. The notion that most successful platforms today are ones people can make a career off of like being an influencer isn’t lost on me and I think ethereum offering ways to maybe appeal to that is good.
  • IPFS (interplanetary file system). Love the idea but can’t seem to find a good entry point or an easy way to discover content and really understand how a consumer would user this outside of an app providing that contex/gateway for it to connect to
  • Nim Programming language: I love that it looks and reads like lisp/python but compiles like C. I feel like I adopted docker because python and nodejs weren’t portable binaries.

Nuclear fusion. The world forgot about it for a few decades, but now there is a real interest and real research again. Say what you want, but renewables are useless long term, we need nuclear power and we need it yesterday.

Mine is all about my ideals in programming/life:

    • rust, because I love type system
    • i2p, the true decentralization network with privacy preserving feature built in

      i2p

That is pretty cool, haven’t heard of that one yet. What do you think of the exit nodes? That is usually where my problem lies with a lot of the networks I’ve seen. I don’t want to be left holding the bag for some criminal to exit via my ISP for example.

I’ve been nerding out on refining my Python skills. Architecture, automated testing, clean code. None of these topics are new to me per say, but I’m trying to expand and take them to the next level.

I remain really excited about RISC-V, and am delighted to see more performant SBCs becoming available. The Sipeed board in particular, since it comes with Debian already flashed, means that RISC-V is on the cusp of the consumer market.

I was delighted that Debian has started work on making RISC-V an official ISA.

And I’m following Marius’ work with great interest - Lomiri on Debian makes a lot of sense to me.

So… The prospect of Lomiri on Debian on RISC-V - a real goal.

Been interested in #Linux, #Bash, and #Vim lately. I’ve been developing a casual interest in cyber-security and data privacy as well.

I like Linux because: it’s free, I have more control, it runs really smoothly across several of my devices, the communities have been fascinating, and there’s a lot to learn.

Bash has been helpful for doing some light file management. I’m no expert or anything, I’ve just enjoyed organizing my stuff better lately. Speaking of Bash, I really like the #CLI. I’ve even started accidentally using #terminal commands while using my web browser.

As tech evolves, our data and information becomes more accessible to ourselves and the people around us. I think it’s a bit concerning at times the extent and accuracy that corporations can harvest info. I’ve been gradually adopting better practices for privacy/security, but within reason.
