God damn I wish I had a lathe, the space to put a lathe, and the money to buy a lathe, plus also the expertise to safely use a lathe.

It honestly probably solves all 4. The one in my city (unfortunately nowhere near where I actually live) has plenty of lathes and will happily teach you how to use them safely and effectively. Also, there’s really not that much that goes into safely and reasonably effectively using a lathe at a beginner level.

Edit: well, I guess actually the money for a maker space membership can be non trivial depending on the space, so maybe it solves 3.

If the makerspace has a lathe, it probably has several people who can’t wait to explain you how to use it.

I just realised the person who responded to me said makerspace and not marketplace; that they were not suggesting I find a bargain on a used lathe.

The more HP and revs, the cooler the bowl.

Bonus cool if your lathe makes super excessive noise and rolls coal.

I love pranking my neightbour by rolling coal on his backyard barbeques. Best part is he can’t tell me to turn the lathe off cause it’s too loud 🤣🤣🤣

For the finishing touch, let’s fire up the cyclotron to burn a nice motif in the wood grain!
