When I fire up a vid to watch on my netbook there is often no sound. If I play an audio file the sound works correctly. If I then go back to the vid and play it again the sound works just fine. I have a desktop machine with the same setup and this is never a issue. Has anyone else come across this?

Software:

KDE neon

VLC (but the problem is the same with any vid player)

Qmmp

ETA: A recent update appears to have fixed this problem.

What audio system do you use? I’ve had similar issues with Jack & Pipewire because I had some weird patches. Opening a new audio application would mangle my patch and make it work again.

No patches. It’s straight out of the box installation and not the slightest bit fancy. The good news is that my first ever pair of Bluetooth speakers arrived today and they connected to every Linux device without any issues.

What audio system are you using? Pipewire, ALSA, Pulse? And what is it your video player tries to connect to?

Pipewire. The video player is simply playing a file (mp4 or mkv) that is on the same machine. And of course the problem is random so that doesn’t help either.
