Hello, I’m looking for any custom keyboard/pcb that requires the components to be soldered directly to it, and uses a atmega32u4. I happen to have a promicro board that I ripped the USB connector and traces from it, so with this new spare chip I was looking to try building something :)

I know most PCBs that can be bought will come with the components already soldered, but I’m open to protects where the pcb needs to be send to be manufactured.

The ferris uses a single 32u4, but it will also need other components like an io expander.

If you don’t find something that works for you, you could always try doing a hand wired board. They’re pretty fun and easy to do.

You could design your own PCB or get one of the many open sources PCBs made for you. It probably doesn’t make the most financial sense though.

  • With how cheap those chips are I’m not sure I see the value in sending it to the manufacturer.

I’ve also never seen a PCB that has the atmega built in show up without that already installed. If you want though you could find an open source board design you like and order the PCBs yourself without components… If you’re up for the challenge.

I actually have a PCB design that’s exactly what you’re asking about. Its a basic board with no rgb headers or other features but I designed it because I wanted a full size with numpad (kinda hard to come by) you can order the board from a pcb manufacturer with all the parts (it includes the BoM) or you can just get the board if youd like. Let me know if you’re interested

@Nindelofocho That does sound interesting, you have ready Gerber files for manufacture and the bom list?
