OP thinks anime makes you a pedo and ignores everyone pointing out why that makes no sense and isn’t the case.

Oh and this is also op when replying

Talking to some anime fans is like talking to a brick they just can’t absorb the fact . Must be living in their fictional world.

Hey i prefer someone who just says “fuck you and the hobby you like” to trying to change the hobby, i guess. Still stupid, but i won’t ever have to deal with them again.

If you want to watch shows that don’t sexualize, don’t watch show that do. While anime as a genre certainly has a higher rate than others, it’s not alone.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the international market is still very much an afterthought for Japanese studios. As long as Japanese viewers still watch those shows and buy the merch, you boycotting them will do absolutely nothing.

You’re right. This was going to be part of my rant about reddit in your other post but I knew it would be an unpopular observation. I was scrolling reddit a few weeks back and found this. The character is canonically a high schooler, and that is definitely “non-sexual” sexualization. I was buried for saying it was gross. People are not ready to address this issue, here or elsewhere. I think it hurts too much for the people who have been hurt by it, and too many others actively participate and enjoy it, which…

A lot of people like it in part because it contains said content, but pretend they don’t. Plausible deniability, they have a valid excuse for watching it because the plot is good.

Hell, plenty of anime is targeted at teenagers, so you could perhaps ignore the ‘fan service’ featuring post-pubescent children, point out their tits are bigger than their head, and file it under cultural differences. But a lot of anime sexualises clearly very young characters, with gratuitous panty shots and the like, often not even bothering to make flimsy excuses like “she’s a 1000 year old demon” or “she’s an alien”.

            It’s depraved.

If it makes you feel any better, Japanese ‘hentai’ is a dying art, because they pay the artists too little and because it’s niche and frowned upon in Japan.

The problem is lumping all anime together like it’s one thing. It would be like comparing toddler toons like bluey, to teenager cartoons (teen titans), to adult ones (st: lower decks).

Shonen (adolescent target) manga/anime is by far the most popular category, but that means a lot of the set/place/characters are of teenaged nature and teenaged topics since that is what is most interesting to that aged group. A dash of sex sells (basic fanservice) and you get a highly competitive target audience in teenagers.

Even western teenager cartoons are a bit sexualized (teen titans) - just to western standards so it’s less noticeable and more in our appetite.

If you apply your 10% standard to western cartoons as a whole you probably fail your own test.

If you DO want to enjoy any cartoons I do think it’s important to find stuff that looks interesting to you, for anime maybe getting into some of the more adult stuff, or the stuff for teens or kids that didn’t do the sex sells part.

I wouldn’t take this as a defense of anime - I don’t even watch anymore, but just providing the context around why you see what you see.

Personally, I’m totally desensitized to this kind of stuff in anime, but I understand your issue. Some people will say, “just don’t watch the gross stuff,” but I think that’s unfair. It’s a little bit like asking someone who doesn’t like sexism not to consume media which contains it.

Like… That would be miserable. Tons of great movies, tv, books, fiction, nonfiction, etc contain casual, misogynist content. You should enjoy media freely and still be able to complain about it, or advocate for change.

Likewise, tons of excellent Japanese media has questionable, underaged girl stuff in it. It’s always going to be weird to a lot of people if it goes unacknowledged.

So… Your opinion might be unpopular, but I think it’s totally valid!

I had so many people try to get me into Mushoku Tensei and dropped that shit like a red hot iron when I saw some of the shit that show pulled. People try to play it off, saying “oh it’s just part of the MC’s arc” when any level of media literacy can tell you it’s just pedo bait (it’s either played off for comedy, or results in MC being directly rewarded for it). “But the animation and world building are so good!” Y’know what else has good world building and animation? So many things that don’t reward the MC for sexually abusing literal children.

I don’t know what anime you’re watching to find stuff like that, honestly. Just stop watching harem anime and you’ll find lots of good stuff to watch.

For context, I generally dislike a lot of anime tropes and I tend to not like most anime…

But judging all of anime from a bunch of specific anime communities on Lemmy is really silly. These communities tend to have the most intense (and often a bit weird) fans.

If you ACTUALLY want to understand anime, you have to actually watch some. It doesn’t seem like you’re interested in that though based on your replies. Personally, I really enjoyed Cowboy Bebop, though it isn’t 100% perfect.

In case you’re not just trolling, it’s likely from the bad faith “oh you’re aware of this thing that you claim most anime isn’t, therefore you must be a perv for disagreeing with me”.

It would be like if someone wasn’t aware of what CSAM stands for and then calls you a pedo for using it when they find out because that means you already knew what it meant and therefore must enjoy it.

if a tv series shows it it is trying to potray child sexual abuse

anime isn’t doing that they are just normalising it.

I still don’t understand. You keep saying “it”. What is “it”?

While I applaud you for actually posting a truly unpopular opinion, I really think that this post crosses a line into a questionably legal area, not to mention it’s just fucking sick. You need to get help, that is truly disgusting and hopefully the FBI is closing in on you as we speak.
