Progress to prevent female genital mutilation needs to be ‘27 times faster’, says UN

The number of girls and women who have undergone female genital mutilation (FGM) has increased by 15% in the past eight years, according to new data.

Figures released by the UN children’s agency, Unicef, show that more than 230 million girls and women alive today have undergone FGM, compared with 200 million in 2016. The trend is towards girls being cut at a younger age, said Unicef executive director Catherine Russell.

“Female genital mutilation harms girls’ bodies, dims their futures, and endangers their lives,” she said. “We’re also seeing a worrying trend that more girls are subjected to the practice at younger ages, many before their fifth birthday. That further reduces the window to intervene. We need to strengthen the efforts of ending this harmful practice.”

Work to eliminate the practice by the UN’s target date of 2030 would need to be happening 27 times faster than it is now, Unicef said. FGM is not becoming more common globally, but more girls are being born in FGM-practising countries in comparison with the rest of the world.

It’s not the same category, it’s worth understanding what female genital mutation is. Circumcision is removing the foreskin. More often than not the boy will not know the difference after it heals. But the same is not what happens to girls. If it was compatible, the whole penis would be removed. What is called Emasculation

Here’s the Wikipedia description of FGM

Typically carried out by a traditional circumciser using a blade, FGM is conducted from days after birth to puberty and beyond. In half of the countries for which national statistics are available, most girls are cut before the age of five.[7] Procedures differ according to the country or ethnic group. They include removal of the clitoral hood (type 1-a) and clitoral glans (1-b); removal of the inner labia (2-a); and removal of the inner and outer labia and closure of the vulva (type 3). In this last procedure, known as infibulation, a small hole is left for the passage of urine and menstrual fluid; the vagina is opened for intercourse and opened further for childbirth.[8]

same can be said for girls. That actually one of arguments why Dr. Kellogg want to circumcise every baby ass soon as possible. It would normalize the appearance, they would never know something was missing. Talk to guy that were cut in their teens and ask them if miss it. Here is a hint you will find a lot of yeses. But you wiki quote would make male circumcision type 1-a. So even its not that different.

Imagine trying to dismiss cutting up baby penises as not being mutilation, because what is cut off is different.

Imagine comparing apples to oranges. Most white men have circumcision, it’s not like it’s life altering. Most will not even know. Girls who have FGM are disfigured and their lives are stunted.

The two are not the same thing. Fuck you for equation it.

go talk to men in the foreskin restoration movement. See how many of them know something is missing, how many of them that were cut latter in life and are deeply harmed by it.

          Most will not even know

So you’re so stupid you think a man will see porn/other guys/ scientific drawings and not notice? You think most men are somehow unaware of what circumcision is and whether or not it was done to them?

The two are not the same thing

Weird, cuz to me they’re both Genital Mutilation, which is the same thing by literal definition.

          Fuck you for equation it.

And fuck you for spreading wild misinformation, calling most men too stupid to know shit about their own fucking dick, and for acting like women have in any way been harmed or had their experiences downplayed by including men in the “ban ALL baby genital mutilation” call.

FGM is horrific and should be banned worldwide with harsh punishments to anyone who does it. And a ban on GM at all would do that for both sexes

Would you be surprised to know that most Christian and Jewish men are circumcised? In Western countries it was considered normal regardless of religion because it was believed to reduce medical problems.

Do those men know? I’ve known grown men that didn’t know until the difference was shown to them. Because having it done doesn’t change your life. Again it’s not the same with FGM.

Would you be surprised to know that most Christian and Jewish men are circumcised?

Not in the slightest, because I’ve known that since I was a kid. As has every guy I know. Literally just go to a porn website, “uncut” and “uncircumcised” are fucking categories, it’s that common knowledge.

              Do those men know

              See above

I’ve known grown men that didn’t know until the difference was shown to them

I’ll grant you maybe knew one. I sincerely doubt it was more than one unless you grew up strict Christian or similar. Or 50 years ago before it was taught in sex ed classes. Which is fine, but also not most men in this day and age.

Because having it done doesn’t change your life

Someone at my school was bullied so hard they changed schools because their circumcision wasn’t done correctly and they had a bit of a wonky scar. Got seen in the locker room one day, never lived it down.

I’ve known multiple men who were made fun of by women for being cut AND being uncut, because people suck.

Also the nerves and sensitivity thing, though idk how true it actually is

Is it the same life change? No. Is it still being treated differently because you were mutilated as a baby? Yes.
