Update: he was a big brave boy that needs to eat his frigging breakfast because he’s 10% underweight. He also got multiple vaccination boosters and his anal glands expressed.
He has rituals with food and my partner and I haven’t been catering to them lately. We’ll try to do better.
He seems to want reassurance that he’s allowed to eat. I can give him this in several ways: throwing his kibble at him, spoon feeding him his wet food, putting food in his puzzle wobble toy. All of these take time and coaxing. I’m going to start getting up 15 minutes earlier to throw food at my dog.
Oh, and apparently putting kibble in an empty happy meal box makes him excited to eat. So I’ll try that trick again later. He just paws at it and hasn’t figured out he can shove his face in.

I think he does. He’s been eating consistently now that I jump start the process by spoon feeding him a couple bites.
