There is an agreement, that system76 gets access to whatever they need to write their own Coreboot firmware that other Clevo rebrands do not have.
Moving towards their own in-house design and assembly in the US has been a goal for system76 for a long time and there should be an announcement later this year about the first such laptop.
Oh, interesting, I actually had a stellar experience with their desktop but an absolutely terrible subsequent experience with their laptop
(which at least I was able to return with no problem) and I was wondering why there was such a disparity, and this may explain it.
Hopefully other vendors use the same format and it becomes a standard.
