I don’t think this solves the problem, but it is a step in the right direction.

    On the iPhone, messages to other Apple users over iMessage show up in blue. SMS are green, so all Android users are green.

    I guess some young people use it as a way to judge others socially, like wearing the wrong brand of clothes.
