Yeah. But when your own leader fails you, where can you go for help?

EDIT: My answer: They go to Hamas, because they can no longer trust the Palestinian Authority.

I am answering this based on the internal politics that leads to what happens now, and why the PA very slow in mitigating the crisis. The way how the world react, although relevant, is not the issue as per discussed by the news article.

Humans who will stand against war crimes.

But Israel gets a free pass for war crimes, so it’s okay.

Not like they can do much. The PA’s existence stopped having meaning 10 years ago.

It never actually had meaning as Israel refused to do any changes. They spend more than a decade after the Oslo agreements just maintaining the occupation and the status quo, happy that they can have the cake and eat it, too, as they de facto occupied the area but didn’t have to pay for it anymore (the international community actually interested in peace did). And so Hamas got a majority in 2006.

After that Israel had again the chance to support the side willing to peacefully exist against Hamas in a civil war like condition, but again deceded against it and instead sat their gloating and watching Palestinians kill Palestinians… until Hamas got control of Gaza.

I mean they at least tried something in 2013. They failed miserably, but they tried. Since then it’s been radio silence.
