Watch SadlyItsBradley and TylerMcVicker on YouTube, these are the guys who actually datamine SteamVR and SteamOS for themselves. They’re both saying Steam Deck 2 is not currently in development. Valve’s current thing is more likely a console-like machine running slightly more powerful hardware, plus Valve’s upcoming VR headset. A prototype of this console actually showed up in the background of “The Final Hours of Half Life: Alyx”.
I hope you’re right. I love my Deck but when I’m home I play docked almost exclusively. I play a lot of older games so 1080p 60fps is no problem there. But any handheld is going to have a harder time with newer, more demanding titles. If Valve can make something on par with the Series X or the PS5 in terms of power at a similar price range, I think it would be a real winner
They tried it before with the Steam Machine but it never really took off. I’d love if they made a second attempt with all they’ve learned from the Deck though
Yeah last time it was now fully properly made. They also didn’t have standard controllers and games were not following with their controller support. Now that the deck is here and games are supporting it you can just make a controller version and sell a small computer for the TV with a deck controller.
Very interested to know what Valve are aiming for with the Steam Deck console, in terms of specs. All the APUs except for the consoles are very light in terms of graphics power. Do we have a rough idea where the Sephiroth APU is going to land?
People are going to have way, way bigger expectations for a console running on their 4k HDR TV than the Steam Deck on the washed out 8 inch.
Tyler McVicker talks about this in one of his more recent videos, from the last week or so. IIRC, the hardware is nearly identical to Steam Deck, but slightly faster so it can handle higher resolutions.
I’m hopeful they’ll release a new Steam Controller sooner rather than later. I didn’t get the original, but if they make one based on the Deck’s controls, I’d be buying one.
I’ve been holding off from getting into VR since there are no trustworthy manufacturers other than Valve, and I would REALLY like to have a wireless headset. Hopefully it finally happens!
If the changes are mainly on hardware, it’s possible it won’t shown in the OS software. Unless SteamOS has kernel level configuration for steam deck, I think the configuration will be on steam app
That would be my guess as well. I doubt Valve would have a new steam deck until summer 2025. I imagine a bigger battery that isn’t glued so hard in place and of course a new amd apu and ddr5 ram, along with probably a 1080p screen.

Inside out tracking meaning the type of pose tracking, similar to oculus quest 2
Stand-alone meaning not relying on a PC or PS5 like the oculus quest 2
