Sorry for the short post, I’m not able to make it nice with full context at the moment, but I want to quickly get this announcement out to prevent confusion:

Unfortunately, people are uploading child sexual abuse images on some instances (apparently as a form of attack against Lemmy). I am taking some steps to prevent such content from making it onto lemm.ee servers. As one preventative measure, I am disabling all image uploads on lemm.ee until further notice - this is to ensure that lemm.ee can not be used as gateway to spread CSAM into the network.

It will not possible to upload any new avatars or banners while this limit is in effect.

I’m really sorry for the disruption, it’s a necessary trade-off for now until we figure out the way forward.

If a single hexbear user is participating in this (which I sincerely doubt, and honestly refuse to lend any bit credence towards, and yet I indulge this fantastical hypothetical nonetheless) they will immediately be site-banned for 1984 years. CSAM is reprehensible and is not tolerated. I truly doubt this is the case. If Hexbear is occupying this kind of space in your brain, I would wholeheartedly recommend you logout-lemmy and meet some people.

I don’t know what the Hexbears would have to gain from attacking lemm.ee. It’s one of the mainstream instances that hasn’t defederated from Hexbear, so there also wouldn’t be anything to retaliate against unless I’m missing some news.

Don’t try to understand an army of trolls. Part of the job is destroying itself

While we might seem annoying, I don’t think a community that consistently uses content warnings for text posts is the right place to look if you’re trying to find the kinds of people who would post that kind of imagery en masse.

Every time I see a lemmeee.eeeee thread I feel gross and no amount of scrubbing my skin off in the shower seems to help

It’s gotten so bad I even reply here it’s awful

We’ve literally had people get site wide bans for failing to CW non vegan food before, the idea of anyone here posting CP to “own the libs” or something is so alien to the site culture and so fucking awful that the ideas completely out of question

Especially when there are actual Lemmy instances federated with lemm.ee that are /pol/ adjacent where they do actually have a site culture of posting disgusting stuff like that

So someone takes the time to write out a civil and thought out response, and this is how you choose to react? pathetic
You’re crying about being insulted, yet you fail to see how your yourself instigate these interactions. You’re a snivelling little baby

          “I bet Hexbear did this”

          “Why would Hexbear do this”

“I don’t understand how Hexbear thinks”

Then why are you speculating about what we would and wouldn’t do

And Hexbear users never brigade either or troll. No reason at all to be suspicious of timing? Seems like my question sure did touch a nerve with a lot of you on that instance.
