Bro, let me minister to you for a second about the wonders of going to bed early. It is so awesome. I myself used to be a night owl, staying up late, hitting the snooze button until the very last second. Then I started to get older, and felt like something was missing. So I tried something different: I tried going to bed earlier. And what will you know, I felt better! My sleep was deeper, more restorative, I didn’t feel rushed in the morning. So then I thought to myself, “well, what if I go to bed even earlier, but then also get up earlier?” You’ll never believe what happened next…

Yes but when do you get freedom from your kids.

Because those fuckers are up at 645 AM daily.

If I go to sleep early, I start being responsible whenevee they see me, and they wake up at 645 AM. If I stay up late, then I get peace at night, and in the morning

Okay, but I’m actually a night owl, I don’t get rested if I go to sleep earlier, I’ll be more tired in the morning, regardless of how much I sleep.

Now if I go to sleep at 5-6 AM, I don’t need a lot of sleep to feel OK the next day. But 10-12 PM? Forget about it, I’ll be groggy all day.

Yes, but also, you can wake up at some stupid hour like 4am, bathe, play videogames for like 2 hours, eat a nice breakfast, and then go to work cheery

I started getting up early to do fun stuff before work, but I honestly eventually found that getting chores done instead actually makes me feel even better! I get up at 5, work out, take a shower, do some Japanese lessons, pack my wife a lunch, and clock in by 6:30. Then when I’m done with work I’m done with everything for the day. I think the calmness of the early hours helps me focus and keeps my brain from thinking of all the other things I’d rather be doing, plus I’m still half asleep when I start working out, so I do my first set completely on auto pilot.

Sure, to each their own, but the thing I want to point out to people who haven’t tried is that although everyone bangs on about waking up really early to do productive things, that you can also wake up really early to help put yourself in a good mood and make yourself happy before you face the challenges of the day, which i have not seen any rich people/self help gurus/influencers talk about

Ah, gotcha. I don’t use other social media, so I wasn’t aware that there were already people advocating for getting up early. I suppose it’s not a difficult conclusion to come to.

it’s not just social media, it’s been a thing for fucking ages

“early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise”

Oh, I have heard that before. I interpreted it more as advocating getting up with your alarm instead of hitting snooze a million times, but this makes more sense.

      Por que no los dos?

When it’s hot out, I wake up at ~5:30 to be outside by 6/sunrise, get all my shit done by 1pm, take a solid 2-3 hour nap, sometimes in a coffee shop, and then I’ve got the entire evening.

Its easier when I can hear the roosters start waking up.
