I’m not in the same age cohort and my circumstances are vastly different, but here’s my little story:
At the end of the 90’s, I moved out of CA to UT. My quality of life increased.
Around 2001, seeing as though Dubya had turned on the fascism switch, I left the US for southern Europe. My quality of life increased.
Around 2004, I moved to a more northern EU country with a lower population density. My quality of life increased.
Around 2019 - just before the pandemic - I moved to northern Scandinavia. The pandemic mostly passed us by: a few bars closed in the area, but other than that we had no restrictions of any kind. My quality of life increased.
This year, I finally found my dream house out in the sticks. The population density is 3 in/sq.mi here, but I still get gigabit internet. My quality of life is amazing.
