      Reality: “Synology removes health check feature for non-synology-branded drives, but they still work fine”

          That’s up to you to decide I guess, but it means that you can buy an upcoming plus series synology nas and put all fresh new Iron Wolf/WD Red/etc drives in it without issue.

          I don’t really think it’s a sign that they’re going to completely lock them down any time soon as they know that would completely destroy their non-corporate side of the business.

          I’ve contemplated making my own NAS, but the synology hardware and software is just unbeatable for the price and effort imo.
