Lucky for me my parents were both “I didn’t save anything for retirement, my kids will take care of me when I’m older”, so I don’t have to suffer through this.

True, some will be denied and will just rot, if they’re fortunate enough to have insurance to deny them.
You only need insurance in the USA. Most other places are socialised.
